Term 2 Week 2

LOTS HAPPENING AHEAD

Welcome back to Term 2. We are all looking forward to Term 2 as there are lots of things happening to keep us busy and ensure our learning is focused. One way of keeping abreast of what is happening is to check the Date Claimers on the SchoolZine App. Find the link in this Newsletter and download the App from your respective APP Store.

COVID UPDATE

Fingers crossed we have weathered a fairly stormy Term 1 and have started Term 2 with a clear slate. The current orders now longer equire household contacts to isolate and children may attend school if they test NEGATIVE with a RAT each morning before attending. Parents will need to conduct a RAT test for 5 schools days following a POSITIVE family infection.

Families that have a positive case, will still need to report to NSW Health as well as inform the school. Upon a postive notification, we will supply 5 RATs for each other non-affected child who can still attend school. Masks will need to be worn indoors by those children who are attending with a positive household contact still at home.

Keep safe everyone. Don't forget to keep sanitising and keeping socially distant when appropriate.

CELEBRATING MOTHERS

We have a special day planned for all the mums, Grandmas and special women in the children's lives who are invited to join us from 9:30 tomorrow.

At 9:30 we will celebrate Mass in the hall lead by our children in Year 3 & 4 (Stage 2). We will then have a special morning tea for our guests provided by the staff in appreciation. The guests are then welcome to  visit in the classrooms or join the children in some special activities planned for the rest of the morning.

Please come along at any time during the morning if you can make it.

naplan.jpg

Students in Years 3 and 5 will sit the exams between Tuesday 10th May – Friday 20th May.

HEADPHONES

All NAPLAN tests will be online, except Year 3 Writing. Students will be required to use headphones to listen and answer questions. Please ensure your child has a set of earbuds or ‘over the head’ headphones to keep at school during this period. No Bluetooth or wireless headphones. Please label and send to school by Friday 6 May.

What can I do to support my child?

All students have been preparing at school and are familiar with the types of questions and what to expect. Students are not expected to study for NAPLAN.

Excessive preparation or even discussions about NAPLAN could create unnecessary anxiety. You can support your child by reassuring them that NAPLAN is only one part of their school program.

FUNERAL PARKING

No_Parking_with_Symbol_metal_30695.webp

We have been asked by the parish to be mindful of where we park tomorrow if we are visiting the school for our Mother's Day activities.

There will be a funeral at the church tomorrow morning and a large crowd is expected. We have been asked NOT to park in the church car park tomorrow.

If you are visiting for the Mother's Day activities, please use the surrounding streets or Sandgate Rd to park.

PBL Update

At our last staff meeting, we came together and discussed where we had been prior to taking PBL onboard, updated new staff as to the process we undertook to determine areas of need within the school, and the decision around the 3 concepts that will become our focus. We discussed how best to unpack this for the students and the decision was made to unpack the words of RESPECT, RESPONSIBILITY and SAFE before we start to use these words around the school. We can not assume everyone understands, so, just like we did with the term ‘bullying’ we will start slowly and embed the concepts as we move forward in the process of introducing this new approach.  We are currently unpacking 'RESPECT'.

Thanks to those that were able to join Craig Moore last term with his presentation of PBL. His presentation slides are below.

If your child will be seeing a provider (eg; speech or OT ) this year at school,
please complete the attached application form and return to school. If you require further information, please don't hesitate to contact the office.

JOINT DEBTOR FAMILIES

Please see attached Compass Joint account permission and payment form.

For security reasons, Compass is established similar to other institutions where only one person has certain permissions. This form is for families that have a single debtor (fee payer) currently established with only one access to the portal for financial matters and we want to make this easier for you. We ask that you complete and return the information below and provide your consent for us to transition you to one jointly accessible account.

A jointly accessible account means that either of the named parties can provide their consent/ permission for school-related activities, view transactions or make payments. Updating your account to joint accessibility will not change your statement transactions.

SPORTING SUCCESS

Our children have been doing wonderfully well in the sporting arena this term, Isla W represented the school and Diocese at the POLDING Netball trials last week in Tamworth, putting her skills against others representing their Diocese from Armidale, Lismore, Bathurst, Broken Bay and Willcannia-Forbes.  Isla's team won all their trial games victorious over all other Diocesan teams.

Isla performed so well she was selected to represent the POLDING Region at the State Netball trials at which the McKillop Region and state public school regions will compete for selection into the NSW Rep team.

Well done Isla and good luck at the next stage.

DIO CROSS COUNTRY

We had 4 children representing OLV at the Diocesan Cross Country Championship yesterday at Maitland. Gemma, Margreit, Max and Harry competed against other children from all over the Diocese. All four ran admirably and placed in the top 30 for their events, all bettering their times at the school trials.

Special mention to Gemma M who finished 8th overall in her event and will be representing the school and Diocese at the Polding Trials later this year.

Well done to all the children - we are very proud of your efforts.

We would like to wish the following children a Happy Birthday.

Kindergarten Matilda B
Year 1
Year 2 Alierah M
Year 3
Year 4 Isabella C
Year 5/6 Sonia K, Margreit K

Congratulations and we hope you had a happy day
