PUPIL FREE DAYS

There were two days planned for teacher professional development coming up. The day planned for 12 August has been cancelled. There will be school as normal for that day.

The second day planned is Friday 9 September. This day is still going ahead. School will be closed on this day.

SPECIAL NEEDS MASS

The 23rd Annual Mass Celebrating Diverse Learning will be celebrated by Fr Gregory Barker on Sunday, 18th September 2019 at 2.30pm at Catherine McAuley Catholic College Medowie.

The purpose of the Mass is to provide community and spiritual support for families, to affirm the welcome that exists for all and to celebrate the gifts our children bring to our communities.

Fr Greg, the staff and families of Catherine McAuley Catholic College together with The Federation of P & F Associations and the Special Needs Working Party look forward to welcoming you to this special celebration.

TELL THEM FROM ME SURVEY

In 2021 we asked you to participate in a survey conducted by Tell Them From Me (TTFM®). The survey data provided us with valuable feedback on what our students, staff and parents think about school life, including faith, learning, wellbeing, engagement and safeguarding.

The information gathered from this survey helps our school community to be better informed about what we are doing well, where we need to focus more attention and how we can sharpen our planning to ensure we achieve improved outcomes for our students. This year, we are seeking your help and participation to improve on our response rates from 2021.

Our collective feedback is critical and allows us to strategically plan and to measure ‘how we know’ we are realising our school improvement priorities. The window to participate in the survey for 2022 will open from 5 September. Watch this space for how to access the survey and more in the next newsletter.

NAIDOC CELEBRATIONS

Our students and community continue to develop an understanding of Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander culture. Last week we celebrated NAIDOC Week with a memorable Liturgy of the Word and day of cultural experiences for all classes. Our Indigenous students lead our Liturgy and a performance using cultural instruments borrowed from San Clemente High School.

At Our Lady of Victories, we are proud of the traditions being built around this important occasion. Celebrating the link between Aboriginal Spirituality and our Catholic faith is important for all Australians. Our day of cultural celebration included connecting in our school yarning circle, playing Indigenous outdoor games, storytelling and learning about local Awabakal history.

Our landscaped gardens contain traditional Indigenous plants grown by students and tended to by Mrs Johnson over the past few years. These natural ingredients were used to create a delicious Bush Tucker Morning Tea for guests.

Mrs York organised a collaborative artwork for all students which involved by painting a leaf using traditional symbols. The leaves will be used to create a whole school wreath, as a visual acknowledgement to the traditionally custodians of our land.

We look forward to continuing to develop our traditions and understanding of the history, culture and achievements of the First Nations Peoples at Our Lady of Victories.
