Term 3 Week 5

BOOK WEEK

book_week.jpgWe will be holding our Book Week activities in Week 8 from Monday 9 September. There will be class readings of the nominated and winning books for 2025. On Friday of that week, we will be holding our Book Fair as well as celebrating the Grandparents in our school community. There will also be a Book Character Parade with the theme of “Reading is Magic”, so put on your thinking caps and come up with some great costumes.

Watch out for more information next time.

UNIFORM TRANSITION

summer.jpgOur normal change over time for uniforms is the commencement of Term 4. With  the warm weather predicted for the coming week,  PARENTS may choose to transition to the summer uniform earlier if they feel the weather warrants it.

Please ensure your child is in either winter uniform OR summer uniform – not a mixture of both.

Please ensure your child’s jacket is labelled with their names as this is often the first piece of clothing to be discarded when playing.

FATHER’S DAY BREAKFAST

baconeggroll.jpgWe are looking forward to hosting our DADs and their children at our breakfast on Friday 30 August. Breakfast will be available from 7:30am for those that have to get to work early. Make sure you put your order in on QKR by Wednesday next week.

After breakfast, Year 3 & 4 will lead us in a Liturgy to celebrate our dads and this will be followed by a mystery activity (it might be helpful to know something about the Archimedes Principle).

REGIONAL PUBLIC SPEAKING

public_speaking1.jpgWe had some wonderful children representing the school at the Regional Public Speaking finals this week. They all performed admirably, especially Allison who was runner up for her division. We wish her well as she moves to the Diocesan finals later this term.

PUPIL FREE DAY

pupil_free_day.jpg

A reminder that the school will be closed on MONDAY 16 September for a PUPIL FREE DAY.

The teachers will be looking at LOVE IN ACTION: Navigating the Path of Christian Service. The day will be facilitated by Bishop Danny Meagher (Aux Bishop of the Sydney Archdiocese). The day explores the concept of Christian service in the Catholic tradition and of our shared responsibility to give witness to the enduring principles of faith, mercy and love.

STUDENT ANXIETY

anxiety.jpgA very worthwhile online webinar is available for parents on Wednesday 18 September. It will discuss the issue of anxiety in children and how it affects their capacity to discover their potential.

See the attached flyer for details.

PIE DRIVE

pie_drive.pngOur annual pie drive is now open on QKR. This is another great fundraiser for our school.  Please place your order through QKR prior to 6th September.  Orders will be delivered to the school on the 17th September.

Father’s Day Gifts

fatgers_d.jpgThis Friday we had a few beautiful Mum’s who volunteered to come and open our Father’s Day stall. If your child missed out on buying a present please see Mrs Fry in the office as there are still a lot left over.

Father’s Day Breakfast 30th August

baconeggroll.jpg

If you have not as yet placed your order for Father’s Day breakfast, please do so before Wednesday 28th August so we can order the necessary food.

We will begin the morning at 7:30am with breakfast followed by Liturgy led by Stage 2 at 8:50am. Once liturgy has concluded we will have an aluminium foil boat making competition which the Dad’s and children will need to create a boat that holds the most counters to be a winner. There will be ten winners on the day. Aluminium foil will be provided you just need to come up with your design so start thinking.

Grandparents’ Day 13th September

grandparents_day.jpgI am looking for grandparents who would be willing to volunteer to share with a group of children their experience when they were kids on the 13th September.

Some ideas of what you might like to share:

  • Games you played and teach them one
  • Your favourite book you liked as a kid and maybe read it to the group
  • What your classroom looked like- blackboards
  • What you used to do on the weekends- going to the movies, buying hot chips for a few dollars - got you so much you could share with mates.
  • Bring in your old school photos and talk about your uniform, friends.
  • Bring in your certificates that you got when you were at school.
  • Talk about sport when you were a kid.

I am sure there are other ideas that you could come up with.

Please email me if you would like to be part of this. We need at least 15 people for this to work so the children can rotate throughout the afternoon. I will need to have names by Friday 30th August.  My email is patricia.dunn@mn.catholic.edu.au

Mission Statement Three

Our third mission statement is

In truth we LIVE, learning and growing together in Christ.

I am looking for parents to let me know what they think this says to them. In the beginning of term 4 we will have CSO coming out to create another video for us and I would love to be able to have at least two parents who are willing to share their ideas on what the above mission statement means to them. Please email me with your response. I am happy for you to do this with your friends. My email is patricia.dunn@mn.catholic.edu.au

EXTERNAL PROVIDERS

Visitors.jpeg

If your child will be seeing a provider (e.g. speech therapist or occupational therapist) this year at school, please complete the attached application form and return to school. If you require further information, please don't hesitate to contact the office.

COMPASS

compass_button.png

OLV uses the "Compass" App.  Log in details for parents/carers have been emailed to all new parents.  If you are still unable to login, or your account has been made inactive, please contact Leanne in the office to arrange a reset of your password.

  • For all new families please familiarise yourself with the information booklet you received in your information pack or enrolment pack, "Parent Portal Compass User Guide" This is also attached

  • Only Parents/Carers have access to Compass Parent Portal.  Parents must have separate email addresses in order to both have access to compass
  • New Users when logging into Compass are given the opportunity to update their details.  It has been noted that some parents have updated their mobile phone number by taking out the gaps within the phone number.  This is not required.  The system requires phones numbers to be in this format
  • REMINDER: PLEASE ONLY EXPLAIN WHOLE DAY ABSENCES - PLEASE DO NOT REPORT PARTIAL ABSENCES through the Compass App.  Reporting partial absences will cause inconsistences with your child's attendance
  • SMS's are sent to parents of students who are absent from 9.35am each weekday morning.  You will receive a text message if your child was not present during the marking the roll process.  Please logon onto compass and explain your child's absence.  Do not reply to the text as compass does not accept reply texts
  • Please notify the office beforehand if your child is going to arrive late; you will however still receive an SMS.  The arrival time of the student will be logged as an explained absence when they present to school on their arrival
  • On occasion you may be sent a text message even though your child is in attendance at school, this may be because they have arrived late and not come to the Office for sign in.  If your child is late, please come into the Office with your child and sign them in via the compass kiosk.

QKR APP

qkr_pos_300X300_1_.jpeg

Part of “progress” is moving towards a cashless society. To assist with the banking, ordering and handling of money, we are moving more of our payments to the Qkr system.

You will find attached instructions for the QKR App.  This easy to use phone app gives you the flexibility to place orders for Canteen and fundraisers from your phone.  It also reduces the need for your child to bring cash to school.  Please remember to amend your child's year group on the QKR App to aid the timely collection of their order. We will be moving to a wider usage of this app as the year progresses.

Health Care Card

Most families have already completed the attached Health Care Card Forms and returned to the school with a copy of their Health Care Card.  If you have a Health Care Card and have not handed it in please contact the Office.  Health Care Cards gives up to 50% off your tuition fees.

      SOCCER GALA

We had a great response to children wanting to participate in the Soccer Gala – 43 in fact. The cost will be $17 per child if we choose to use a bus for transport. This would be reduced to $5 per child if we can have enough parents to transport the children to and from the venue. That would be about 12 cars. On Monday a transport request will go out to all children that have nominated and ask that parents:

       1) give permission for their child to participate and

      2) indicate whether you can provide transport for your child and other to and from the venue.

We would like to wish the following children a Happy Birthday.

      Kindergarten Oscar M
      Year 1
      Year 2 Isabelle M
      Year 3 Malachi K
      Year 4
      Year 5 Jesse M
      Year 6

Congratulations and we hope you had a happy day
