Celebrating Mary MacKillop: Australia’s First Saint

This month, we honour the life and legacy of Saint Mary MacKillop, a remarkable woman whose faith, courage, and compassion continue to inspire generations of Australians.

Born in 1842, Mary MacKillop dedicated her life to serving others, especially the poor and vulnerable. In 1866, she co-founded the Sisters of St Joseph of the Sacred Heart, a religious order committed to providing education and support to children in rural and disadvantaged communities. Her work laid the foundation for Catholic education across Australia.

Despite facing many challenges—including opposition from church authorities—Mary remained steadfast in her mission. Her deep trust in God and unwavering commitment to justice and kindness earned her the title of Australia’s first canonised saint in 2010.

Mary MacKillop’s famous words, “Never see a need without doing something about it,” remind us all to live with compassion and purpose. As a school community, we strive to follow her example by supporting one another and making a positive difference in the lives of others.

Let us celebrate Mary MacKillop not only as a historical figure, but as a guiding light in our journey of faith and service.

Kindergarten will lead us in this liturgy on Friday 8^th August at 2:20pm in the school hall. Everyone is welcome to join us.

15^th August Stage 3 & Kindergarten  attending Parish Mass at 9am in the church all are welcome to join us.

22^nd August Laudato Si Liturgy in the hall lead by Year 1 at 2:20pm. Please come along and  join us.

NAIDOC Activities

Friday 15^th August the students will participate in different activities during 12:40 and 1:10pm. Please feel free to come along and join us.

Reminders

If you would like to participate in Father’s Day Breakfast your order will need to be place in QKR by September 1^st.

If you would like your child to buy a Father’s Day / Granddad/ significant other present please place your order through QKR by 28^th August.

Confirmation

If your child is the Parish Sacramental Program for 2025 the parent information meeting is 2^nd September at 6pm in St Patrick’s Church Wallsend. Students will be given information about dates for lessons and retreat day. Mrs Dunn will be able to assist students through their work booklet on Thursdays and every second Friday.
